Olga Salmina passed away peacefully on January 7, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salinas where she had been living for the past 5 years. She was 101 years old, just a few months short of her 102nd birthday.

Olga was born April 24, 1915 in Brione Verzasca, Switzerland to her parents, Rocco & Giuditta Bisi. She was the youngest of 7 children. All preceded her in death, including her husband, Silvio Salmina; niece Delma Tisdel; nephews, Lino & Melvin Scolari, all from Soledad; great nephew, Gary DeCarli of Salinas; and many beloved nieces and nephews from Switzerland.

She came to the Unites States in 1955. In 1959 she married her husband, Silvio Salmina, also from Switzerland. They made their home in Soledad for over 50 years.

Olga was a skilled seamstress, loved knitting, gardening, and cooking or baking for her many friends and family who would visit often. She was known for telling some remarkable stories, and for her quick wit.

Olga is survived by her niece, Doreen DeCarli of Salinas; 8 nieces and nephews in Switzerland, and many great nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Switzerland.

Olga was a member of Monterey County Swiss American Club, Pro Ticino Club, and Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church in Soledad.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm at Woodyard Funeral Home, Soledad. Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10 am at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, 235 Main St, Soledad; followed with burial and the Soledad Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
